Devlog #1
Hello and welcome all to our first weekly devlog!
As the holidays arrive, the Nihilo team is determined to make as much progress as we can on the demo. This has been a journey of discovering, failing, and adding people to the team! We are grateful today to have 4 regular members working on the project and we are hoping to add more in the upcoming semester.
Our challenge has always been the amount of time we can can dedicate to the development of the game. Cherubim is a project that is close to our heart and we want to make sure that we provide something that can make people care about it as much as we do. Unfortunately, that means high ambitions when it comes to visuals, music, and mechanics. None of the members can participate in the project more than 10 hours a week, making progress slow. These weekly devlogs should help us monitor and keep track of how much we will do in the upcoming weeks. If this helps, we will continue during the semester.
Enough prologuing, let's get to what we were able to do this week!
We started by setting our winter goals and figuring out exactly what we think we can achieve. Our game is based in Hell, and we really want to hone in on what version of hell we are trying to convey. This led to several new iterations of our main character Bautista with different proportions and harsher shadows.
Mechanics-wise, our AI addon was implemented, thanks to our member Oyin! Myelin is a AI solution for 3D games allowing entities to easily get sensory information from the environment and make decisions. This will allow us to have a way to interface between the environment and the AI which we hope will in turn make the world feel more reactive. Our goal with this game is to have an RPG where combat is part of the decision-making process and where granular actions affect the whole story.
That's it for this week! See you next devlog!
